The best nodes in Albion, high tier and high enchantment, sit in the black zones of the Outlands. So do the players who hunt gatherers. Anyone there can kill you and take everything you wear and carry. You will lose sets. The skill is losing them rarely and cheaply, and banking often enough that good trips pay for bad ones.
Decide three numbers at the bank
- Set value. Bring a set and mount you could replace ten times over. If losing it would make you play scared, step it down a tier.
- Bank threshold. The carried value at which you turn round and bank. Pick a number you would hate to lose, sized to your own bankroll.
- Trip length. Thirty minutes, an hour, longer. It decides the mount and how much food you pack.
Write them down. Every bad gathering death starts with "one more node" past the threshold.
Gear and what to pack
Your set has two jobs: raise yield on the resource you came for, and buy enough time to remount after a dismount.
- The gathering cap and garb for that resource, for yield. Since Rogue Frontier Patch 2 every gathering cap carries Emergency Shield, which strips lingering damage over time so an Invisibility Potion or remount does not get broken by a DoT tick.
