Tracking turns open-world hunting into a short investigation. You read tracks with a toolkit, follow them through a few steps and corner a rare creature at the end. Solo trackers get a calm, steady farm. Groups of four to eight hunt the large versions for bigger rewards. Either way, nobody can camp your target, because only the trackers know where it is.
Getting started
- Earn a little PvE fame and unlock Trainee Tracker on the Destiny Board.
- Buy or craft a T3
Journeyman's Tracking Toolkit. Toolkits are made at the Toolmaker. - Go to an open-world zone and use the toolkit.
A toolkit tracks creatures of its own tier and one tier above. Higher-tier toolkits also search a wider radius, which makes finding the first track faster.
How a hunt goes
- Use the toolkit. Any readable tracks nearby show up.
- Read a track. It points you to the next search area.
- Ride there and search again. Each step raises the chance that the next encounter is your target.
- At the end you meet the creature or, sometimes, a different track. Keep going.
- Kill it and loot.
The chance at each step depends on the Destiny Board progress of the player who started the hunt. Let your best tracker start every group hunt.
The creatures
There are seven kinds of creature. Each comes in two sizes:
| Size | Party |
|---|---|
| Small | 1 to 3 players |
| Large | 4 to 8 players |
You cannot hunt with a party larger than the creature's size. Bringing too many players can also scare a target off, and the chase continues.
Lower-tier toolkits find creatures such as Panthers, Sylvians and Spirit Bears; Werewolves and the bigger beasts need higher toolkits. Which creature sits at which toolkit tier has shifted in patches (Panthers moved to Tier 3 in 2025), so check the toolkit tooltip in game.
