The Roads of Avalon are a maze of zones linked by temporary portals. Each portal has a player limit and a timer, so a road network that exists tonight is gone tomorrow. Small groups use the Roads for chests, high-tier resources and fights, and as a shortcut across the map. It is full-loot territory, and big groups cannot follow you through a small portal.
How portals work
Avalonian portals open in the open world and connect to a Road zone. Inside, more portals link Road zones to each other and back out to the world.
- Each portal shows a player capacity and time left. Common blue portals take a small group; larger yellow portals take a raid-size group.
- Large portals are kept for the bigger "raid" regions, and group portals inside the Roads recharge between uses.
- The tier of Road you reach depends on the zone type you came from. Tier 8 Roads are only reached through Deep Roads and 20-player portals.
Capacity is the safety feature. A seven-player portal stops a forty-player zerg from following you through.
What is inside
- Chests guarded by Avalonian mobs, from common to valuable gold ones. The good chests draw groups from across the network.
- Resources at high tiers and enchantments, plus large Guardian resource mobs.
- Avalonian mobs, including the Pathfinders that patrol the roads.
- Avalonian Rests, the zones where guilds can place hideouts.
- Other players, all of whom can kill and loot you.
Scouting and mapping
The whole game in the Roads is knowing how you get home. Portals close, so a route you rode in on may be gone in an hour.
- One player scouts ahead and reads each portal's destination, size and timer.
- Record them. The Roads of Avalon mapper saves the portals your scout finds with their time left and finds the fewest-portal route home.
